He is renowned for his epic ceiling mural on the Sistine Chapel,
the David and Pietà, and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Sculpture
remained Michelangelo's true love and he continued chiseling
away in his home studio until the very end. Only days before he
died at the age of 88, he was still working on the so-called
“Rondanini Pieta,” which depicts Jesus in the Virgin Mary's
arms.
Santhal paintings have simple themes such as music, marriage,
harvesting, and everyday rituals, but the artist's color and
imagination bring the most mundane to life. The Santhal,
dating back to the pre-Aryan era, are ancient, but their
paintings are interestingly modern human figures. The figures
are dramatic yet symmetrical and realistic.
