In August 1962, J.C.R. Licklider developed an interconnected
network to see if it could offer a global service from any
database. From that moment he was appointed Director of IT at
the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
based in the United States.
Years later, the first document related to the network was
produced, entitled 'The Theory of Packet Communications'.
This explained how it is possible for the information to be
transmitted through interconnected networks. But it wasn't
until 1968 that a much more specific network was defined and
structured: the Internet.
The first computer network was created by the Advanced
Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) managed by
the Department ``DOD” (USA) as a means of communication
for the various agencies in the country. This action piqued the interest of Robert Elliot Kahn, who,
along with Vinton Cerf, invented the TCP/IP protocol, a
technology for transmitting information over the Internet, in
1983.
